Introduction
Voidchat (“we,” “us,” and “our”) provides free anonymous chat rooms that can be used without registration. Our privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
Information We Collect
Your privacy is very important to us, and we will ensure protecting it when using our services. Our guiding principle is to collect only what we need. Here’s what that means in practice:
- Account Information: We collect data from our users when and if they register for an account on Voidchat, such as: the registered username and hashed password
- General Geolocation data: We log the full IP address used to sign up an account and retain that for use in mitigating future spammy signups.
Malicious Activity
If our system detects malicious activity from your IP address, or a moderator manually flags your activity as such (i.e bans or mutes), we may collect certain data for an indefinite period. This data may include:
- Visited URLs
- Time of visit
- IP address
- Browser type
Any of the following may be considered malicious activity:
- Posting content prohibited by the rules
- Using Voidchat in a way which violates US law
- DOS/DDOS attacks
- Any activity we consider harmful to Voidchat and the service we provide
Who is this information shared with?
We will never sell your data to any third parties, albeit we do use specific third-party service providers to handle it, including:
- Cloudflare, provides us with DDOS protection
- Render, provides backend services
- Supabase, provides Postgres database and file storage
- Netlify, provides global CDN for assets hosted on static.voidchat.org
Location of site and data
Voidchat servers are located in the United States. If you are located in the European Union, UK, or elsewhere outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to us will be transferred to and stored in the United States. By using Voidchat you consent to this transfer.
Data Retention
We keep your information for the time necessary for the purposes for which it is processed. The length of time for which we retain information depends on the purposes for which we collected and use it and your choices, after which time we may delete and/or aggregate it. We may also retain and use this information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Cookies and Storage
Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. These are sent to your browser from the websites that you visit and are stored on your device's internal memory.
Voidchat may make use of cookies and your browser's built-in storage to provide certain features. More specifically we use cookies to keep you logged in if you have chosen to create an account with Voidchat.
Links to Other Sites
Voidchat may contain links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
Security
All data is encrypted with SSL/TLS when transmitted from our servers to your browser, and our database backups are also encrypted.
We are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting your Personal Information. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Children’s Privacy
We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which requires online service providers to obtain parental consent before knowingly collecting personal information from children under 13 years old.
We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. In the case we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete those informations. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided personal information, please contact us so that we will be able to do necessary actions.
Changes To This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy as needed to comply with relevant regulations and reflect any new practices. Whenever we make a significant change to our policies, we will refresh the date at the top of this page and take any other appropriate steps to notify users.
