Update on the Recent Downtime

Hey everyone,

Here’s a quick rundown of what happened with Voidchat over the weekend:

On October 23, a group of users uploaded content that is illegal and against the rules of both Voidchat and our domain registrar. Cloudflare’s system flagged it right away and it was removed within a few hours. At the same time, the registrar sent an email asking for the content to be removed and for a reply within 48 hours, or the voidchat.org domain would be suspended. I didn’t see the email in time, so the suspension went through on the 25th.

I’ve since been in contact with the registrar and the issue has been resolved.

A few changes are being made to avoid this kind of thing in the future:

• File uploads from VPNs and proxies will soon be blocked.
• Extra checks are being added to catch bad content faster.
• I’m keeping a closer eye on emails, so nothing important gets missed again.
